Starting with a Plan

So apparently I’m blogging now. Why? Firstly a lot of my friends and family don’t live close by. And by that I mean we have to make expensive long distance phone calls and occasionally account for timezone differences. So blogging is a good way for me to keep them updated (whether they want to be or not) about what I’m up to. While I love Twitter, 140 characters isn’t really enough, and Facebook... I like Facebook too, but again, it’s not the best medium for this sort of adventure. Secondly, I guess I like to hear myself talk. Or is it to watch myself write? :P And lastly, it seems like fun and I have a project!
In an attempt to make this less like a very public diary, I have given myself lessons or tasks to complete each month. Why? Well apparently I am lacking in some skills and experiences that other people find necessary. Other lessons I’ve added for the sheer fun, because *I* would like to learn new things :)
Some of the people reading this will know me already, but others may not. So I’ll try to introduce myself briefly here:
I’m a 20-something person of a female sex. I live in Edinburgh in Scotland and have done so for just over 5 years now. My passport says ‘Dansk/Danish/Danoise’ under Nationality. Those who know me personally will know my real name, but I have chosen not to disclose all of it here as I work in the public sector. So what shall I call myself instead? My username is Kitsune because I am a fangirl of Japanese fox spirits, and foxes in general, but it's not really a name :P
When I was 16 I decided Miss Sophie was a brilliant "pseudonym", partially because of this brilliant piece of comedy:
My family and I will watch this every New Year’s Eve. I remember the days before YouTube and video sharing when I could only watch that clip on that particular day. Now I can watch it when I feel like it, which is really quite brilliant! My brother sometimes calls me  Miss Sophie, or Sophie Ducks, with a delightfully fake Cockney accent :D
Anywho! I had a lovely childhood, the usual teen-angst and now the uncertainty that plagues a 20-something girl-person who doesn’t know what to do in life! Along the way I’ve been awesome places, seen groovy things and meet lovely people. But apparently there are some things I’ve missed out on. Ask me about a lot of pop culture films, particularly from the 80s and 90s, and I’ll give you a blank stare. So I’ve decided that it’s time to tackle this, hence my project: The Education of Miss Sophie. I have lined up three tasks to complete within the next three months.
Task Number One
Watch The Terminator, followed by Terminator 2: Judgement Day
According to my friends I can be forgiven for not watching films 3 and 4 (Thank Goodness). Why has this made the list? Well mostly so I can cross it off another list of mine (I’ll tell you more about this another day, I think). If I had £1 for every time I’ve heard someone say “You haven’t seen TERMINATOR?!” I would be able to go out for a cheap-to-midrange-priced meal, haha. I have decided that this will take place at some point during the month of November. And I shall keep you all posted (aren’t you lucky? ^.^) about what I think.
I may add another popular film in there, just for kicks.
Lesson Two
Learn how to make Tiramisu.
I did home economics at school in Norway, and I can make a sponge cake. I can even make actual food. But I’ve never made Tiramisu before, but I think that any cake that has alcohol in it must be a brilliant thing. And the soft sponge layer.. and the creamy mascarpone.. mmmm! Delicious! This is my task for December, and may involve me gaining even more weight than normal over the festive season, but it will be worth it! :P Speaking of festive season and winter weather, we will move on to
Lesson Three
Learn how to Knit (Properly).
I say properly because I learned to knit once back when I was about 10. I managed to knit a “scarf” which barely wrapped around my neck, in the colours of a football (for any Americans tuning in: I mean “soccer”) team I was delusional enough to think I supported at the time. The football fad lasted for about a month; the defective scarf rolled around in a box of memorabilia for years. Now that I’m older, I have decided that I am not going to be defeated by yarn. I am going to make myself a scarf, and it is going to be amazing. So there! :D This is another December task, but I am giving myself a deadline of finishing the scarf by the end of January. Scarf pattern and design have yet to be decided, watch this space!
There will be more tasks to follow, but I think this is a half-decent start. For the last two lessons I will be relying on other blogs and websites for help and advice, and who knows, I may even share a lesson or two myself on other topics! No matter what the outcome, I’ll be having a lot of fun! :D
